E-mpulse Festival learnings

On November 2015 I had the opportunity to participate as an entrepreneur speaker at E-mpulse Festival.  This was possible because I followed the E-mpulse game path through some months. The purpose of that was to help social entrepreneurs to build their projects or shape what they already had, like myself. My dream project on that path was Politize!, the organization that I’ve been working since its beginning on 2014 and although we were already running our projects, E-mpulse method could help us to revisit some points and have great insights new possibilities. It’s been almost a year after that gathering and I must register this milestones. Below you can watch my presentation and about Politize!.

Being present at the Festival was great to meet many incredible people that I could only talk through videoconferences and social media. For sure I have met people that I could establish a friendship that will last. The structure of the Festival was built around main questions, that I would like to register here because those questions does not have an answer yet (and might never have). We need to keep on trying 🙂

Complexity: how to build resilient collaborations for social change under cirscumstances of uncertainty and complexity?

Cooperation: how to develop human centred cooperation within a competitive mainstream? How can we put human relationship at the centre of our collaborations?

Diversity: how to work with the oneness (uniqueness) and diversity at the same time? How to embrace difference in a space of common dreaming/visioning?

Peer2Peer: how can we go from scaling up to sacling deep in a global context? How to build truly peer to peer international collaborations?

Value based partnerships: how can we shift our (economic) relationships with supporters from dependendy to emp[owerment? And build relationships based on common values?

Also I have made some notes of bullet points to think about:

●  We need to recognize the “dragons” inside us. Everybody has challenges to face, but we only can do that if we ackowledge that they exist and needs “treatment”;
●  Sometimes we gonna need other people to tell the truth about us, we’re kind of blind to some stuff – “things that I do not know that I do not know” (aha moment!);
●  How can we integrate theory with practice? It’s something like concept + feeling;
●  On the next 20 years there will be more changes than ever. This was called by some speaker as “Great Turning”, where everybody wins (I win + The community wins + The world wins). We need to play win-win games!;
●  Competition? We need no losers, to make all of us winners (com means with, petition means to struggle)
●  Everyday we loose communities, environments and future generations;
● Passion x Strategy: it’s not possible to live only with passion, although we are all passionate about our social causes. There is a need of strategy also, a plan;
●  Plan to fail or fail to plan?;
●  Plan is differente than control (world is complex);
●  Power of the people is not enough, neither the power of the plans;
●  There is no sufficient power in a “VUCA” world: volatile, unpredictable, complex, ambiguos;
●  Everybody has a dream and as much as dreams are realized, the better for the world. As each dream is born from one person, how to transform it into collective?;
●  Finding the right partners: we do not need to know everything. We must find the right people and make them wanna join us. A individual dream needs to die and reborn as a collective dream. We must create a team around a dream;
● Unfortunately 90% of the dreams die like dreams. Put into action!;
●  Read dreams in the past tense without names, thats collective now!;
●  Relationships are the most important thing in life;
●  Collective Wisdom or Collective Stupidity?;
●  Abbundance? Sufficiency? Enoughness? (opposite of scarcity);
● “a” means no, “bundance” means limitless;
●  There are alternatives! The limit is our imagination (self prejudice);
●  Celebration is a must and the whole process must be fun.

That’s all folks. Hope you have learned something! A big shout out to all E-mpulse players and organizers.
